Supporting Local Producers

Longdown Farm was once the home of a large herd of Holstein Friesian cows that provided many gallons of milk for the dairy industry (pictured). Market forces in the early 1980s dictated that farm owners, Bryan and Dawn Pass, needed to diversify to survive so in 1983 they opened Longdown Activity Farm, and later in 2007, The Farm Shop, and latterly The Chicken Shack.

With their background in farming, Bryan and Dawn are true advocates of locally sourced produce and passionately support local growers, farmers and suppliers, hence opening The Farm Shop – a place where consumers can easily find a large range of local produce under one roof.

Farm Shop manager, Wayne Smith, shares their vision and works hard to source a wide range of stock that is not only fresh and delicious (and quite often unique), but he also wholly supports that original target to support local producers.

Long-Standing Partnerships

Our many long-standing, valued partnerships include growers and producers supplying produce as diverse as ice cream, cheese and garlic!

Lyburn Cheese

Lyburn Cheese is a family-run business located in Hampshire, near West Tytherley. Established in 1952, it specialises in handcrafted cheeses made from their own pasteurised cow’s milk, using vegetarian rennet. Notable products include Lyburn Gold and Old Winchester, which showcase a softer, more continental style. Committed to quality and sustainability, Lyburn Cheese offers its products through a farm shop, online store, and various stockists including the Longdown Farm Shop.

The Garlic Farm

The Garlic Farm on the Isle of Wight is a family-run business that has been cultivating garlic for over 60 years. Founded by Granny Norah, it features a farm shop, restaurant, and various activities in the scenic Arreton Valley. Visitors can explore a range of garlic-inspired products and enjoy dining at the award-winning restaurant, which focuses on locally sourced ingredients. The farm also offers educational experiences about garlic cultivation, making it a unique destination for garlic lovers and families.

New Forest Ice Cream

New Forest Ice Cream, located in Lymington, is renowned for its high-quality, artisanal ice creams made from locally sourced ingredients. The company, run by twins Christina Veal and Niki Jenman, has been crafting a diverse range of flavours since taking over from their parents. Their commitment to quality begins with sourcing milk from farmers who prioritise animal welfare, and they incorporate fresh fruits, honey, and spices to create unique flavours. A beloved choice for ice cream lovers – available in outlets across the country, and of course, in The Longdown Farm Shop freezer!
